I am speaking on behalf of the Premier League when I say thanks to Carlo Ancelotti & Everton, for bringing the talent that is James Rodriguez to the Premier League. I’m just learning today that he was actually a free transfer, which definitely goes down as the deal of the Summer 2020. The Cheeky Colombian is loving his start in the Premier League.
I’ve labelled this Scout Report, but James needs no report. It’s known what talent he has, it’s on his CV. From his wonder goal in the World Cup for Colombia, to signing for Real Madrid & becoming a galactico.
It would be fair to state that James Rodriguez didn’t set the world alight at Real Madrid, but when you look into his stats they’re pretty good. He totalled 29 goals and 28 assists in La Liga, in 85 appearances. I’d suggest that’s a good return for a central attacking midfielder, but Mesut Ozil had similar numbers and was shipped out as soon as possible.
Looking at his time with Bayern in the Bundesliga, he totalled 14 goals and 15 assists, in just 43 appearances. Yet again, this seems like fantastic output… when you consider Robert Lewandowski is scoring a goal a game too!
It begs the question; why do these clubs not rate James Rodriguez?
Well, it seems there was one ‘constant’ which correlated to his excellent form in Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti was the manager. It was him who purchased Rodriguez in 2014. However, Carlo didn’t survive & when Zinedine Zidane was bought in, he couldn’t find space for James.
Now Carlo Ancelotti is trying to revive Everton, and he’s made fantastic progress in the Summer window. He’s completely revamped midfield, with Doucoure & Allan providing the much needed engine in the centre of the pitch.
He’s also getting a tune out of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but much of this could be down to James Rodriguez ‘unlocking’ him.
The Colombian has needed no time to settle in, already becoming a favourite amongst the fans. When they’re allowed in the stadium, you can be sure they’ll be singing his name. For now, we will leave you with his player cam footage from the Everton vs Tottenham game.
