In case you missed it, Brighton & Hove Albion signed Danny Welbeck on a Free Transfer, after he was released from Watford when they were relegated.
With a little help from Adam Lallana, Danny Welbeck decided to turn down a huge offer from Fenerbahce in order to remain in the Premier League. It’s rumoured that they offered £140,000 a week, but Welbeck opted to earn significantly less to stay in England.
He didn’t have the best of seasons with Watford in the last campaign, which saw them relegated. I’ve always like Danny Welbeck, he has great intelligence and is often in the right place, at the right time. He’s even got a decent goalscoring record with England, with our favourite goal being the cheeky little backheel he scored against Sweden. If you’ve forgotten this, we’ve attached it below from YouTube. He’s actually got quite a collection of cracking goals, including overhead kicks, or more fancy flick goals!
Welbeck is a great addition to a forward line, we aren’t under the illusion that he’s going to be taking Maupay’s spot though in the starting eleven. What he does offer is backup during a long season. He’s good cover in case Maupay gets injured, and he’s got FA Cup experience… winning it with Arsenal in 2015 and 2017.
Again, Welbeck isn’t a prolific goalscorer, but he will fit right in at Brighton & should become a valuable squad member. We hope that he can stay injury free, because he’s had his fair share of problems with injuries. Brighton will have been aware of this though, hence why they offered a one year deal for the striker.
Brighton haven’t started fantastic, but Welbeck is now on-board and he’s looking forward to helping them push on. They’ve recruited exceptionally in the last few seasons, with Leandro Trossard one of their best acquisitions. Keeping Ben White will also prove to be a huge benefit & the Seagulls will be looking to build momentum now, with a win against West Brom in the league.
